Miss SA 2022 entry FAQ’s & requirements

How old must I be to be eligible to enter?

An applicant must be at least 20 years old and must be under 28 years of age as of 1 August 2022. This means that an applicant can turn 28 within their year of reign (starting August 2022).

Do I need a matric qualification and/or a degree?

No, there are no minimum qualifications required to enter.

Should I have done previous charity work?

No, it is not compulsory to have done charity work. We do, however, promote active citizenship and for every South African to play their part to promote change and make impact in their communities to build a better South Africa – together.

Can I enter in 2022 if I have already placed as a finalist in previous Miss South Africa competitions?

Yes. An applicant may enter again if they have been a finalist in a preceding year. However, the applicant may not have previously held the title of Miss South Africa nor placed as a runner-up within the two preceding pageant years.

Do I need a driver’s license to enter?

The applicant is not required to be in possession of a valid driver’s license. However, in the event that the applicant makes it through as a finalist, they may be expected to take steps to attain their driver’s license by the time of the final pageant event (August 2022) due to sponsor requirements.

Do I have to have been born a female to enter?

Trans women are eligible to enter the Miss South Africa pageant, however, in order to be eligible to compete internationally the contestant must be in possession of a valid South African ID document reflecting that their amended sex is female.

Can I enter if I have dual citizenship or if I am only a permanent resident of South Africa?

Miss South Africa entrants must be South African citizens and in possession of a valid South African ID document or passport. If an applicant holds dual citizenship, they must provide details of both on the entry form.

Can I enter if I am in a committed relationship and/or engaged?

An entrant may be in a committed relationship or engaged, however, must adhere to the rule of not getting married during the Miss South Africa pre-competition process or prior to competing internationally.

Can I enter if I am currently married or have been married?

Due to international regulations the applicant cannot have ever been married (civil nor customary), nor had a marriage annulled. Miss South Africa is also required to remain unmarried until after competing in the international competition, subject to her placement therein.

Can I be a guardian of a child or have given birth to a child?

In order to be eligible to compete internationally, the applicant cannot be pregnant, have given birth to or parented a child. The Miss South Africa Organisation is actively reviewing this requirement in the context of international competition rules and hopes to implement meaningful change in the future.

Can I have visible tattoos or piercings?

There is no restriction in terms of tattoos or piercings.

Are there height and/or weight restrictions?

No, there are no height or weight specifications or requirements.  

How do I prepare to enter Miss SA 2022?

The Miss South Africa Organisation is committed to provide the needed tools and education to best prepare for this journey. Be sure to watch the dedicated ‘How To” videos that are posted under the FREE MissSA.live content on the LIVE page of the Miss SA app.

 

Do I need any pageant training before entering?

No training is required for an applicant to be eligible to enter. The Miss South Africa Organisation offers professional training to all finalists and the eventual winner. Miss South Africa titleholders will be well prepared for any of the international pageants that the Miss South Africa Organisation holds the license for.

Do I need to be signed with a modelling agency to enter?

No, it is certainly not a requirement to already be signed to a modelling agency! No training is required for an applicant to be eligible to enter. The Miss South Africa Organisation offers professional training to all finalists and the eventual winner. Miss South Africa title holders will be well prepared for any of the international pageants that Miss South Africa Organisation holds the license for.

Should I suspend my studies if I want to enter? If I have a professional career should I quit my job to enter?

No. You may have to make special arrangements with your college and/or university and/or employer should you be selected as a finalist, as you will need to be available to the Miss South Africa Organisation for the entire pre-pageant programme. The Miss South Africa Organisation can help facilitate the approval process with your employer or learning institution. Should you be crowned Miss South Africa 2022, you may be required to put your studies on hold and/or resign and become the official brand ambassador of the Miss South Africa Organisation.

How big of a financial investment do I need to make in order to enter?

You don’t need to make any financial investment to enter the Miss South Africa pageant – the Miss South Africa Organisation doesn’t want anyone to put themselves into a precarious financial situation. What we want in terms of investment is your commitment and passion!

How long should I make myself available for, should I make it into the Top 30 /finals?

Should you be selected to commence to the interview round, you will be required to ensure your availability for judging from mid-June 2022. Information on judging dates to be confirmed by the Miss SA Organisation.

If you are selected as a Miss South Africa 2022 Top 10 finalist you will be required to ensure your availability to the Miss South Africa Organisation intermittently over June, July and August 2022. Further details will be shared by the Miss South Africa Organisation should you progress to this stage.

If I place as a Runner-up to Miss SA 2022, will I be required to represent South Africa at an international competition?

The Runner(s)-up will only be required to participate in an international pageant if so determined by the Organisers. Factors that will be taken into consideration include, but are not limited to, the dates and timing of the international competitions, the availability of the reigning Miss South Africa 2022 to fulfil her duties and the rules and regulations of the specific international competition.

Important information regarding vetting and background checks

Our rules state that any shortlisted entrant or finalist may not have been involved in any unsavoury or unethical incidents or conduct that may bring the Miss South Africa Organisation into disrepute. Unsavoury or unethical conduct includes, but is not limited to, bribery, racism, sexism, slander or libel.

Accordingly, by entering to compete for the title of Miss SA 2022, you will be required to consent to the Miss South Africa Organisation doing any background checks to verify information provided in your entry form, as well as to confirm that you are an upstanding citizen worthy of representing the country.

General Guidelines For Entry Images

What images should I submit when entering?

You need to submit a minimum of two photographs with your entry form – a portrait shot and a full body image. Both MUST be in colour (no black and white images will be accepted) and photographs must have been taken within the last six months.

You will be able to submit more images. However, you will not be advantaged in any way should you submit more than the two compulsory pictures.

Submit a clear head and shoulders picture. Try to be as natural as possible with natural make-up. Stay away from heavy or dramatic make-up.

Full body image of you standing – this image can be in a beautiful outfit; it is not compulsory to submit a bikini or swimsuit image.

Do I need to have professional quality photos taken?

It is not compulsory to submit professional entry images. The Miss South Africa Organisation is aware of the costs to have professional images taken and wants to encourage potential entrants not to be deterred from submitting images taken using a cellular phone. However, should you have professional images, you are welcome to submit them.

Note – AUTHENTICITY is key! Please refrain from using filters or over-editing your entry images. We want to get to know YOU, as you are.

Miss South Africa 2022 Eligibility Requirements

Must be a South African citizen and in possession of a valid South African ID document or passport. If applicant holds dual citizenship please provide details of same.

 

The applicant is not required to currently be in possession of a valid driver’s license, however, in the event that the applicant makes it through as a finalist, they may be expected to have taken steps to attain their driver’s license by the time of the final pageant event (August 2022) due to sponsor requirements.

 

In order to be eligible to compete internationally, the applicant shall not have ever been married (civil nor customary), nor had a marriage annulled.

 

In order to be eligible to compete internationally, the titleholders are required to remain unmarried. It is accepted that an applicant may be in a committed relationship or engaged, however, must adhere to the rule of not getting married during the Miss SA pre-competition process nor prior to competing internationally.

 

In order to be eligible to compete internationally, the applicant must be in a position to represent and warrant that they have never given birth to, or parented a child and is not currently pregnant.

 

The applicant may not have previously won Miss South Africa or held the title of Miss South Africa in a previous year. The applicant may not have placed as a Runner-up within the 2 (two) preceding pageant years (an applicant may enter again if they have been a finalist in a preceding year).

 

The applicant should have no criminal record and be truthful in respect of all matters in relation to the run-up to the competition, the competition itself and the period after the competition. 

 

There is no restriction in terms of tattoos or piercings that the applicant may have.

 

The applicant must be in a position to represent and warrant that they have not been involved in any unsavoury or unethical incidents or conduct that may bring the organisers or the competition into disrepute, as determined by the organisers in their sole and absolute discretion. Unsavoury or unethical conduct shall include, but not be limited to, racism, bribery, sexism, slander and/or libel.

 

In the event that any false or misleading information of whatsoever kind is submitted by the applicant the organisation may in its sole discretion take any action that it deems appropriate, including without limitation, disqualification from participating in the Miss South Africa 2022 competition, and/or termination of reign as a titleholder or as Miss South Africa 2022, as applicable.

 

Finalists may be required to attend and/or endorse certain objectives as required by the Miss SA organisation which may include online or physical attendance at sponsor events and workshops and are therefore not permitted to enter another competition that may coincide or conflict with the time-line of the pre-competition and pageant.

 

Should you be selected to progress to the interview round of Miss SA 2022, you will be required to ensure your availability for judging from mid-June 2022. Format and details will be shared by the Miss SA organisation.

 

Should you be selected as a Miss SA 2022 finalist you will be required to ensure your availability to the Miss SA organisation intermittently from June 2022 to mid-August 2022. Format and details will be shared by the Miss SA organisation.

 

The Miss South Africa 2022 pageant finale will take place in mid-August 2022, date to be confirmed.

 

The winner of the Miss South Africa pageant will be contracted to the Miss SA organisation as a brand ambassador thereof for their full year reign. Following the completion of their reign they may be required to assist with up to 12 appearances.

 

Runner(s)-up of the competition hereby agree to be contracted to the Miss SA organisation for the year following the pageant event.

 

No family of the Miss South Africa organisation or related companies, Sun International Limited, Multichoice, any sponsor, production company, advertising agencies or suppliers associated with the competition will be permitted to enter.
